Meet Dr. Higgins

“Choose a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”- Confucius

MAY_0058I love being a dentist and have over 30 years experience to prove it!  In 1982, after graduating with a DMD degree from the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry,  I spent thirteen years in Nepal as a partner in the American Embassy Dental Clinic.  At the clinic, we served 35 different expatriate nationalities as well as the American Diplomatic staff.  I will always have a special place in my heart for Kathmandu.  In 1996, my love for the outdoors motivated me to move with my family to Boulder where I took over a long standing dental practice. Then in 2006 I opened up our beautiful Pearl Street Dental office.

Dentistry is constantly evolving and I’ve stayed current with advanced dentistry techniques and technology by pursuing many hours of continuing education, including being a graduate of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.  This continuing education and a passion for the dental arts have led to integrating lasers and surgical operatory microscopes into my practice.  As an advocate for technological changes that offer better health care for my patients, I am committed to using these new instruments to create a better experience for them. These advancements in technology have changed the way I practice dentistry today.

I’m an active member and past president of the Boulder Dental Forum, as well as a member of the World Clinical Laser Institute and the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry.

Outside of the office, I am an avid outdoorsman. I have spent years trekking, backpacking, white water kayaking, skate skiing, mountain biking, as well as traveling extensively. I love to play the drums, perform in the small theater and once in a while…do nothing at all! At present, with my wonderful boys Chris and Charlie out of the house and thriving in college, I acquired a Ketch sailboat that’s moored in Guatemala.

Dentistry is one of my passions and I’m quite fortunate to be living it, but I’ve also learned that life is a balance of work and play.   Life is good!
